UK Liberal Democrats had called for royal trip to be cancelled
After weeks of calls for the trip to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence to be called off over President Trump's war against Iran, a formal notice was issued this morning.
Despite political tensions between the US and UK, the King will travel to Washington next month.
While the trip is not officially confirmed, the King and Queen Camilla are reportedly planning to visit the US at the end of April.
If someone's mobile telephone went off when she was talking to them, the late Queen was known to say: 'You'd better answer that. It might be someone important.'
