The sport, which already faced extinction after the country's last track closed, is to be banned permanently.
Pressure is mounting to end greyhound racing in England after Welsh politicians agreed to ban the sport, while Scottish lawmakers are set to decide a Bill on the issue tonight.
Debate on the issue has been ongoing in parliament for more than 15 years but this is the closest legislation has made it to become a law.
Controversial proposals to legalise assisted dying in Scotland were tonight rejected by MSPs in a crunch Holyrood vote.
Scotland would have become the first part of the UK to legalise the process had MSPs backed the proposals.
