The sanctions on Milorad Dodik, an ultranationalist Serbian politician, had attracted criticism from MAGA firebrands.
Putin on Sunday oversaw a test of another advanced nuclear-capable weapon - the Burevestnik cruise missile, which he said had an 'unlimited range'. Trump called that exercise not 'appropriate'.
The only confirmed successful test of the missile took place in April 2022. In September 2024, one exploded, leaving a large crater visible in satellite imagery.
The test comes days after Putin said Russia had tested the Burevestnik nuclear-powered intercontinental cruise missile.
Putin said that the weapon, which he called “Poseidon,” cannot be intercepted.
Tensions began easing in October after Putin admitted that Russia was to blame for the December 2024 downing of an Azerbaijani Airlines plane.
An anonymous White House spokesperson said, “permanent peace depends on Russia’s willingness to negotiate in good faith.”
The findings, shared with members of Congress earlier this month, suggest that Russia has shown no sign of being ready to compromise as Donald Trump attempts to broker peace talks.
